Up, Up, and Away

I was hired to do an aerial photo shoot this week. I've done plenty of them in the past, but this one was extra cool because the client secured a helicopter to do the job. I've shot out of airplanes for years, but I don't think it compares to the feeling of levitating. You're sitting there listening to the RPM's increase and then suddenly the ground just drops away from you! I'm not at liberty to talk about the scope of the project, just wanted to share the adventure with you. My pilot for the day was Wayne Breeden, perhaps one of the most skilled pilots i've ever flown with. You can check him out here Helicopters, Inc.

That's Wayne removing the door so I could shoot unobstructed. I'm not afraid of heights, but I do have a healthy respect for gravity. In the back of my mind i'm always concerned about dropping a $6,000 camera and lens from 500 feet. I can tell you that from 5 feet, it sounds like a pair of cheap roller skates smacking the pavement (ouch!$!$!$!).

Hanging out in the breeze.

This is the cool little Safari truck we used to get around on the ground.

A few scenic shots of the beautiful property we were on.

Heading back to the airport. In a few weeks Wayne will be in Alaska shuttling fishermen to remote fishing holes in the back country. I thought I had a cool job as a photographer, but I know when i've been beat :-)
